What identification documents do I need to travel?

Start your journey smoothly by bringing the right travel documents. To board the ferry, you’ll need:

  • Your booking confirmation number
  • A valid form of identification*
  • If required, a visa or permission to travel

This page offers guidance based on your nationality and destination. For the latest information, check official government advice or contact the relevant embassy or consulate.

Please make sure the names, dates of birth, genders and nationalities you enter when you book exactly match the photographic ID each passenger presents at check-in. This applies to everyone travelling, including infants.

By law, we must provide accurate passenger information to government authorities before you travel. If any details are incorrect, you may not be able to board and you will be responsible for any costs that arise.

Please note, expired IDs are not accepted on most of our routes. Please read the Travelling between Britain and Ireland page for exceptions.

*All passports must have an MRZ code. This is on the personal data page and usually consists of 1-3 lines of letters and digits.
