Rail Strike in Britain

 

Strikes are expected on the entire national rail network in Scotland, England and Wales on Thursday 18 & Saturday 20 August. This will have an effect on rail & sail connections to and from Harwich, Holyhead, Cairnryan & Fishguard. London Underground staff will also go on strike. Services on the days after each strike day are likely to start up later than usual. Please be aware of potential delays when continuing your journey by public transport. Check your routing at www.nationalrail.co.uk before you travel. Please note it is no longer possible to make new Rail & Sail bookings for these dates and existing bookings may be changed to alternative dates.

NS (Dutch Railway company) are not pre-selling any tickets via Stena Line which means customers cannot book the Rail & Sail product with inclusive onward travel via Metro and NS. Stena Line's Dutchflyer provides combined rail and ferry travel for passengers wishing to travel from Britain to Holland. Depart from any Greater Anglia station to our Hook of Holland Port. 

 

Train services from Greater Anglia stations take you to Harwich International Port where you can board one of Stena Line's two Superferries to Holland.

Fast Travel within Holland

Metro rail services are now available from Hook of Holland Port to Schiedam Centrum. The metro station can be found outside the front of the ferry terminal.

From Schiedam Centrum there you can access to the NS rail system, Amsterdam is under an hour and a half away, The Hague is just 30 minutes. For a complete list of NS stations in Holland, visit the NS Rail website. Note that travel on the Metro or NS services is not included in the Dutchflyer ticket. Book you Dutchflyer ticket.

The dutchflyer operates an “open” rail ticket which means that you can travel to the port at whichever time is most convenient to you. If you need help choosing which rail service will ensure a timely arrival at the port please view our recommended rail timetable.

Information on travelling to/from Holland with a bike

Unfortunately, bicycles cannot be included as part of our Rail & Sail Ticket Package. Should you wish to travel with your bicycle, all rail travel has to be be booked directly through the railway carrier websites. Please visit Greater Anglia for booking cycles on the UK section of your journey and NS Railways or RET for the Dutch section. It is possible to book your bicycle on our ferries to Holland but this must to be done separately as a foot passenger and not as part of our Rail & Sail Dutchflyer Package.

 

Please note, that bicycles are allowed on the metro between Monday - Friday from 9:00 to 16:00 and after 18:30; and all day on Saturday and Sunday.

Q: What is the Dutchflyer?

A: A product that combines a Stena Line ferry crossing and a train ticket from the UK to Holland thanks to a partnership between Stena Line and Greater Anglia Rail.

 

Q: How does it work?

A: The Dutchflyer provides rail travel from any Greater Anglia station and a ferry crossing from Harwich to the Hook of Holland.

 

Q: How long is the sailing?

A: Approximately 6.5 hours with the option of travelling day or overnight.

 

Q: How do I buy tickets?

A: Dutchflyer tickets can be booked online through the Stena Line website here, at London Liverpool St. Station ticket office, or by calling 03443 350027 (UK only). We recommend international customers book online.

 

Q: Do you accept international credit cards?

A: Yes. If you are using a card from the US and experience any problems completing payment, please call our USA Toll Free Number: 1-866-261-0359 (08:00-22:00 CET).

 

Q: Do I have to print out my e-ticket?

A: Yes, please make sure you print a copy of the itinerary / e-ticket before the start of your journey. This will be accepted as a valid travel document for your rail journey on Greater Anglia rail services in the UK and for your ferry crossing.

 

Q: Where can I catch the train from/to in the UK?

A: Any station that is part of the Greater Anglia network.

 

Q: Where can I catch the train to/from in the Netherlands?

A: Directly in front of the terminal you'll find the RET Metro line to Schiedam Centrum. Once in Schiedam Centrum, interchange to the train service for travel to any station within the NS network. Please note that travel on the RET Metro line or the NS Network is not included as part of the Dutchflyer ticket.

 

Q: What is meant by an ‘open rail ticket’?

A: This simply means that you can use it on any Greater Anglia service on the day you have purchased it - you are able to catch any train at any time.

 

Q: Can I catch any train to the port or only the one I selected in my booking?

A: The Dutchflyer rail ticket is an open ticket which means you can use it on any Greater Anglia service on your ferry travel date - you are able to catch any train at any time.

 

Q: How do I book the Dutchflyer starting in the Netherlands?

A: Simply visit our Dutch site at www.stenaline.nl/en-GB-nl/england/rail-and-sail and go through the booking process.

 

Q: Do I have to book a cabin on overnight sailings?

A: Yes, cabins are compulsory on overnight sailings.

 

Q: Do I have to book a cabin on day sailings?

A: No, although cabins are half price on day sailings and can be a good option to relax.

 

Q: How much luggage can I take?

A: As much as you can carry. We do not have a luggage limit although we do recommend keeping luggage to a manageable amount as you will be getting on and off trains during your journey.

 

Q: Can I take my pet with me?

A: Yes, but please be aware of the requirements for travelling with pets to Europe. Simply add the number of pets that are travelling with you in the booking dialogue. Pets travel free on Greater Anglia trains (London to Harwich).

 

Q: Can I take a bicycle with me?

A: Unfortunately, it is not possible to include bicycles as part of our Rail & Sail Dutchflyer Ticket. If you wish to travel with your bicycle, all rail travel must be booked directly on the railway carrier websites. For all information, please visit Greater Anglia to book the UK leg of your journey. Onward travel in the Netherlands can be booked via NS Railways or RET (Rotterdam Public Transport). You can book your bicycle on our ferries but this has to be done separately as a foot passenger and not as part of our Rail & Sail package.

 

Q: Can I change my Dutchflyer booking?

A: Provided the origin station remains the same, changes to tickets can be made at least 14 days in advance of the outward travel date, upon payment of a £10 administration fee plus any increase in fare between the cost of the original journey and your amended travel dates. No refund will be made if an amendment results in a price decrease.

 

Q: What if I want to extend my holiday?

A: You can extend your holiday by calling us on (+44 (0) 3447 70 70 70). You will be required to pay an amendment fee of £10.00 per change plus any difference in the fare.

 

Q: What if I need to cancel my booking?

A: There is no refund value on any 'Dutchflyer' product, but in the event of the cancellation of the service on which the reservation has been made, you will have the option of a full refund (as set out in the National Rail Conditions of Carriage).

At London Liverpool Street Station (platform 10) there is a luggage depot which is open from 07.00 - 23.00 hrs. The cost per bag is approx €14.00 ( £12.50 ) per 24 hrs.

Stena Line and Greater Anglia Railways reserve the right to make minor changes to all products up to 36 hours prior to departure and cannot accept any liability for any inaccuracy in the information contained in these terms and conditions, which may be subject to alteration without notice. Tickets will not be valid for alternative destinations or routes. Our fares start at £49 single and terms and conditions apply. For bookings paid for by credit card, made by phone or at a travel agent, additional fees may apply.

Advance single 'Dutchflyer' fares are available only in standard accommodation from any Greater Anglia station and Harwich International.

Please note, Rail & Sail train tickets are not valid on private carriers including: Arriva, Breng, Connexxion, Syntus and Thalys. There is an additional charge for Intercity Direct and ICE trains.

The 'Dutchflyer' fare does not include travel on Dutch rail services.

Availability is limited, particularly at busy times. For the cheapest fare of £49 you must book your outward and return journeys at least 14 full days in advance of your outward journey.

Travel must be on the dates and times shown on the ticket. No break of journey is allowed other than to join connecting services. There is no reduction on the Advance fare for Railcard holders. Children aged 5-15 inclusive pay 50% off the available fare. If you travel on a different train or ferry to that shown on your ticket it will be invalid, and a full single fare will be payable.

Advance ticket refunds and change of travel arrangements:

Travel Conditions
The transport of travellers, their luggage and vehicles is carried out in accordance with the travel conditions of Stena Line BV, of which registry is filed at the District Court in Rotterdam, unless the convention of international transport of travellers and their luggage per railway (CIV) is valid. The travel conditions are available for perusal at the office and onboard the ships of Stena Line BV.

Onboard cabins
Prices will vary according to travelling dates and are subject to availability. Prices are per cabin per night, including tax. and are compulsory when traveling on overnight ferry sailings.
