Cookie Policy

Like all websites we use cookies to store and later retrieve small bits of information on your computer during your visit and on subsequent visits. This information is used to make the site work as you expect it to. Cookies are not connected to you as a person, only to the device you are using.

Stena Line is using a cookie consent model called “Implied consent”. That means that some cookies are set already on first arrival on the site, but can be switched of at any time using our ePrivacy module or the browser settings. From that moment cookies are not renewed and new cookies are not set accordingly.

If you continue to use this site without taking action to prevent the storage of this information, you are effectively agreeing to this use.

We use cookies to discover general information about which pages you visit on our site. We sometimes combine this with information provided to us by third parties. Together this information enables you to be grouped with other people with similar interests and places you in a market segment. We may then display advertisements which we believe people in your market segment will find relevant. We believe this makes the advertising more interesting and useful to you, and also helps us increase the value we get out of the site from our advertisers, and therefore ultimately gives us a greater ability to invest in great content for the benefit of all our users.

Some of the cookie information is put there by other companies whose software we have added to the site, and this can also impact your experience of other websites you may visit after leaving ours.

We use an advanced ePrivacy solution that demonstrates our respect for consumer privacy and provides compliance with EU cookie laws. It can be used to adjust settings for cookies set by this site only. You open the setup dialogue box with the button labelled “Modify Privacy options” in the footer on every page. You can then adjust cookie settings by cookie type as a more fine-tuned alternative compared to the settings available as part of your browser settings.

You can learn more about the general uses of cookies, including how to stop them being stored by your computer. There is also a lot of information on this website www.allaboutcookies.org.

Below is an explanation of the different types of cookies used on this site, and examples of the most prominent service partners we use.

Strictly necessary cookies

These very few cookies are necessary for the website to function. They are usually only set in response to actions made by you which amount to a request for services, such as logging in or filling in forms.

These cookies do not store any personally identifiable information. Most of these cookies are so called session cookies, which mean they are deleted when you close the browser.

These cookies cannot be switched of in our ePrivacy tool. If you however switch First party cookies (sometimes called “Cookies from the visited website”) our web booking part of the site will not work.

Cookies for analysis and special functionality

These cookies allow us to count visits and traffic sources so we can measure and improve the performance of our site. They help us to know which pages are the most and least popular and see how visitors move around the site.

All information these cookies collect is aggregated and we do not store any personal information about you within these cookies. If you do not allow these cookies we will not know when you have visited our site, and will not be able to monitor its performance.

Examples of service partners setting these kinds of cookies are Google Analytics, VE Interactive, Questback, Sessioncam, Maxymiser and Visual Website Optimizer.

All such partners and third party service providers set their own cookies when you visit our site.

Targeting and advertising cookies

These cookies are set through our site by our advertising partners. They may be used by those companies to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant adverts on other sites.

They do not store any personally identifiable information, but are based on uniquely identifying your browser and internet device. If you do not allow these cookies, you might experience less targeted advertising.

Some of these partners provide us with management and measurement of our digital marketing campaigns.

Examples of service partners setting these kinds of cookies are Tradedoubler, Adform, Onetag/Flashtalk, Delta, Zanox and Adscale.

All such partners and third party service providers set their own cookies when you visit our site.

Use of cookies to send messages about possible upgrades prior to travel

You will be required to provide consent to allow us to use cookies to send messages to you about upgrades you can make to your booking prior to travel.

Cookies for social media

The social media services are a set of services providing you with connectivity from our site to your peer network, for sharing content and opinions.

Examples of service partners setting these kind of cookies are Facebook, Pinterest, Google plus and Twitter.

All such partners and third party service providers set their own cookies when you visit our site.

Do Not Track (DNT) browser setting

DNT is a feature offered by some browsers which, when enabled, sends a signal to websites to request that your browsing is not tracked, such as by third party ad networks, social networks and analytic companies. The Stena Line website www.stenaline.co.uk does not currently respond to DNT requests.

A uniform standard has not yet been adopted to determine how and if DNT requests should be interpreted and what actions should be taken by websites and third parties. Stena Line will continue to review DNT and other new technologies and may adopt a DNT policy once the DNT has been accepted as a standard.
