It is possible to use your mobile phone onboard however, please note that, the mobile network available onboard our ferries is supplied by Telenor Maritime, therefore, the costs to send/receive SMS messages and to make/receive calls are considerably higher than those charged when onshore.
The costs incurred to your phone bill are out of Stena Line’s control. When your mobile phone picks up the Telenor Maritime network when onboard, you will receive an SMS informing you that you have now joined the Telenor Maritime network and that call/SMS rates are charged at the standard International mobile phone rates. These are considerably higher than your regular call/SMS costs, the details of which you should receive from your own service provider.
There is no EU Roaming when Onboard
From 15th June 2017, the EU Officials removed roaming fees when travelling within the European Union. This means that there are no additional charges will be invoiced to your mobile bill when using your mobile phone for voice or data in any another EU country.
However, please note that when onboard Stena Lines ferries, EU roaming is not available because our vessels operate in international waters. Rates for roaming at sea on the Telenor Maritime network will be sent via SMS by your mobile operator.
