Things to do in Maastricht

Nightlife

No trip to explore Maastricht would be complete without experiencing the incredible culinary traditions on offer. Five of the city’s restaurants have Michelin stars – quite a feat in a city of just 130,000 people.

Almost every cuisine under the sun can be found here, so it takes time to explore Maastricht. Castles, country estates, farmhouses, vaulted underground chambers, warehouses, churches, and even the former wool weighing house have all been transformed into restaurants making dining out one of the top things to do in the city.

For a stylish afternoon or evening out, the Holland Casino Valkenburg is a much loved tourist attraction. Perched on the top of the Cauberg Hill in Valkenburg, it is one of the most beautiful spots in South Limburg, and a visit here means roulette, blackjack, slot machines and more.

Sightseeing in Maastricht

One of the best ways to explore Maastricht is on foot and simply wandering through the cobbled streets, café-lined pavements, beautiful parks and grand squares is one of the top things to do in the city.  Hoensbroek Castle, dating back to 1250, is one of the largest and most beautiful castles in the Netherlands with fairytale-like towers, and an impressive  moat.

The picturesque ‘White Village of Thorn’ is a popular historic tourist attraction dating back to the late 10th century, famous for cobbled streets, a beautiful Abbey Church and characteristic white houses. Relive the sieges of Fort St. Pieter with a guide. Learn about the shooting holes in the moat, the underground passages, the secrets of the well and of course the guns!

Finally, just outside the city, taste pinot noir, riesling and müller-thürgau at some of the oldest vineyards in Holland in the Limburg hills.
