Culture, design and history

Rotterdam: Europe's largest port, the working heart of Holland, home to some of the world's most striking modern architecture as well as cutting edge designers, artists, fashionistas and musicians.

The Netherlands' second largest city has all this to offer and more - beautifully preserved old harbours, a globally-recognised music scene, world-class shopping and a blossoming culinary reputation to name a few - yet Rotterdam goes largely unnoticed by visitors to the country.

24 Hours of Culture - Festival 13-14/9

Culture vultures should pay Rotterdam a visit for the De Wereld van het Witte de Withkwartier festival (12-14 September), which coincides with 24 Hours of Culture (13-14 September).

The Witte de With street and quarter is a trendy, bohemian area packed with unique designer shops and ateliers and transforms into one big stage during the festival, bursting with displays of art, music, dance and theatre. The boutiques, galleries and art studios stay open until late through the weekend.
