Edinburgh is very, very picturesque. It’s packed with historical gems and just by wandering around the cobbled streets you soak up the atmosphere and culture. The Castle looms large over all, blasting a cannon every lunchtime and scaring the shoppers on Princes Street below. Roam the made-for-Instagram Dean Village, Circus Lane and Victoria Street down into the Grassmarket, or head up to Calton Hill for 360º views of this beautifully preserved little gem of a city.

At Liverpool’s redeveloped Royal Albert Docks you can eat, drink, shop and fill up on culture. Tour the funky and wonderful modern art at Tate Liverpool as well as the sobering exhibits of the unique International Slavery Museum. Then drift around checking out all the Beatle and maritime landmarks.

The skyline of Liverpool is stunning at night, and by day is best viewed from one special spot. At the Museum of Liverpool, enjoy over 6,000 pieces of this fab city’s history, each with a story to tell. The overhead railway, Beatles’ stage, and 360º Everton FC film are all topped by the Skylight galleries, the ‘Best Window with a View’ of the Three Graces that loom over the museum: the stunning Royal Liver, Cunard and Port of Liverpool buildings.
