Enjoy Easter in Holland
Easter is celebrated in real style across every city in Holland. To celebrate this special occasion Dutch-style, don your Easter bonnet and get involved in the colourful carnivals and processions.
You’ll discover Easter egg hunts in most towns and cities, and you can dance at the parades and masquerade balls. Easter Sunday itself is a very quiet day, but many restaurants and cafés will be open for a traditional meal, high tea or delicious baked goods.
Of course, at Easter, the tulips and daffodils are in full bloom across the Netherlands and are a delight to see. It really is the best place in the world to appreciate the spring season, especially from the seat of a bicycle. Not in Holland for Easter? There are lots of other fantastic events taking place this spring and summer:
- National Museum Weekend. For one weekend, museums throughout Holland and Amsterdam can be visited for free or at reduced prices. If you’re in Amsterdam, don’t miss the Vincent Van Gogh museum or the world famous Rijksmuseuum with its collection of Golden Age masterpieces including Rembrandt’s Night Watch and Petronella Oortman’s Doll’s House.
- Tulip Time (tulip festival) A celebration of Dutch culture, this event caters to all age groups with outdoor concerts, arts and crafts, parades, traditional dance performances and parades. Visit www.tuliptime.com for full details.
- Queen’s Day Party Dress in orange and join in on the festivities of Queen’s Day (Koninginnedag), where the whole of the Netherlands celebrate Queen Beatrix’s birthday. On this day, you can also browse through the “free market” – a tradition where everyone is allowed to sell goods on the street.
