Seven million buds available from £49 with Stena Line

Head to Holland and the world’s largest flower garden from just £49 one-way with Stena Line

Britons with a spring-fuelled desire to travel to the world’s largest flower garden can do so with Stena Line when Holland’s Keukenhof gardens open next Thursday.

Budding botanists and flower aficionados can take advantage of Stena Line’s overnight crossing between Harwich and the Hook of Holland next week, and arrive in time for the 77-acre gardens’ annual opening.

Located in the small South Holland town of Lisse just an hour’s drive from the ferry port, the so-called “Garden of Europe” is home to seven million flower buds, from rhododendrons and Japanese cherry trees to azaleas and tulips, which are planted annually in the park. Entry to the park is just 14 euros per adult, or half price for under 11s, whilst the ferry crossing starts from just £49 one-way per car and driver, £12 per additional adult and £6 for children between four and 15 years old.

Available during the garden’s 59-day opening period, the £49 one-way fare means that tulip devotees will also be able to reach Keukenhof affordably in mid-April, the optimum time to view the iconic bulbs synonymous with the Netherlands.

For those looking to visit Holland for Easter, fares from £132 one-way for a family of two adults and two children plus car are still available: a 43 per cent saving on the cheapest currently available airfare for the same four-person family between London and Amsterdam and an 89 per cent saving on flying from Birmingham to Amsterdam with KLM.

Visitors to Holland over Easter can expect to see hilltop Easter bonfires in many villages, and feast on multicoloured dyed eggs and Paasbrood, a Dutch raisin- and currant-filled sweet bread that forms part of the Easter tradition.
