FERRY COMPANY FULL OF IDEAS FOR GREAT SUMMER FUN
School’s almost out for summer and that means lots of family fun on the horizon, but with the cost of living continuing to rise and parents struggling for ideas on how to keep the kids happy this summer many are looking for simple solutions - and a short break or day trip with Stena Line could provide the answer.
The leading ferry company has some fantastic summer special offers, including great value breaks that allow kids to travel and stay for FREE!*
Stena Line UK communications and PR manager, Nigel Tilson, says the company understands how difficult it can be for families hoping to get away in the current challenging economic climate.
“With the cost of living seeming to rise all the time, we at Stena Line understand that it can be hard for families who want to get away during the busy summer season. That is why we have put together a range of short breaks and day trips that can provide the perfect solution for those who want to treat the kids without breaking the bank,” he said.
There are a wide range of trips on offer, including three night self-catering breaks at the Craig Tara holiday park near Ayr, which start from £505 for two adults and two kids including return travel by car on the Stena Line Superferry between Belfast and Stranraer, accommodation in a two-bedroom luxury mobile home and free entertainment, including kids’ clubs, swimming activities and shows.
Travel in July and August needn’t break the bank as one-night breaks at the Norbreck Castle Hotel in Blackpool start from just £135 per adult with kids going free including return travel by car on the Stena Line Superferry and a one night stay including bed, breakfast and an evening meal. Norbreck Castle Hotel is the perfect base to enjoy Blackpool’s many attractions from the fun of the Pleasure Beach to donkey rides on the sand.
For those who prefer their family break to be full of rollercoaster rides and adventure, thrill-seekers can enjoy a one-night break at Britain’s number one theme park, Alton Towers, from £175 per adult and the kids go free! The offer includes return travel by car on the Stena Line Superferry, one night bed and breakfast in the Express by Holiday Inn near Alton Towers and discounted entry tickets to the park.
Closer to home, the M&D’s theme park in Strathclyde Country Park near Motherwell in Scotland features over 40 major rides, including five white-knuckle roller-coasters. A return by car on the Superferry, one night’s bed and breakfast in the M&D’s Alona Hotel and discounted tickets to M&D’s costs from just £135 per adult and again children go free.
Also available is a superb day trip to M&D’s. The price of £34 per adult includes return travel on the Stena HSS, coach transfers to M&D’s from Stranraer plus an unlimited ride armband to various rides.
“The fun starts onboard the newly refurbished HSS Stena Voyager,” says Nigel, “where younger children will be kept entertained in the Curious George themed play area which features a cinema, soft toy zone and an interactive facility with touch screen technology. Older kids can spend their time in the Teen Town section listening to the latest music on a video jukebox with plasma screens and access internet stations.”
“Those who want to paper themselves onboard can call into the New York City Nails treatment zone. Treatments on offer include a ‘Manhattan Manicure’ and a ‘Treat and Tidy’ as well as neck and shoulder massages, ensuring passengers are truly relaxed when they reach their final destination. With the range of activities available onboard, even a day trip can make for fantastic family memories,” he added.

FERRY YOURSELF TO HOLLAND FOR £49 FOR FIRE, FAIRYTALES AND FLOWERS THIS EASTER
For travel enthusiasts wishing to escape from the perennial Easter ennui of eggs and bunnies, Holland offers an Easter fusion of fire, fairytales and flowers. With the easiest and most relaxing way to enjoy all of Holland’s attractions being from the comfort of one’s own car, savvy travellers will bypass Easter airport pandemonium and take their motor straight to Holland.
Stena Line has two daily crossings to the Hook of Holland and a year-round motorist fare from just £49 per person or from £69 for a family of two adults and two children under 16, making Dutch delights an easy option for an Easter escape.
On Maundy Thursday - 20 March – the world’s largest and most famous flower garden opens near Lisse, just an hour’s drive from the Hook of Holland. 32-hectare Keukenhof, known as the “Garden of Europe”, boasts the flowers of approximately seven million bulbs which are planted annually at the park. Open from 8am to 7.30pm daily, Keukenhof will particularly delight garden-lovers and flower afficionados with its swathe of 4.5 million tulips in 100 varieties. Those attending the opening of the international Keukenhof flower show on 19 March will witness HRH the Prince of Orange conducting the opening ceremony, joined by Niu Youcheng, Deputy Mayor of Beijing.
From Good Friday - 21 March – visitors can enjoy a fairytale atmosphere in Madurodam at twilight when thousands of tiny lights illuminate this miniature city located within The Hague each evening. Visitors will be immersed in the fascinating Dutch folk story of Hansje Brinker and the fight against floods. Madurodam uses the most modern projection techniques for this daily water, light and laser show.
Holidaymakers seeking exhilaration over the Easter weekend itself will enjoy the Dutch traditions in the Netherlands’ eastern regions, where villagers light an Easter bonfire – or Paasvuur - in the hills at sunset on Easter Day. In order to gain a head start, people start collecting wood for the fires weeks in advance as each area tries to outdo each other by building the biggest bonfire.

LEADING ferry company Stena Line has launched the new-look HSS Stena Voyager following a £2m refit which was officially unveiled to the Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Jim Rodgers, during a sailing from Belfast to Stranraer.
The onboard improvements on the HSS Stena Voyager vessel include an expansion of the popular Stena Plus service with a 160-seater lounge at the front of the vessel which includes comfortable leather seating, new toilet facilities and a separate family area which now houses Playstation 3 consoles.
Other improvements include a new treatment zone in association with New York City Nails, the addition of two new barista coffee houses, a metropolitan bar stocked with continental beers, wines and cocktails and an extended quiet lounge which seats 170 passengers. All toilet facilities on the ship have been revamped too.

DON'T SEND YOUR PET AROUND THE BEND SAYS STENA LINE
Leading ferry company urges travellers to take their pets on holiday and works with leading animal psychologist to help holidaymakers do it safely.
Leading ferry company Stena Line is encouraging its customers to spare their pets the psychological distress of being left behind when the family goes on holiday. Working with animal psychologist Dr Roger Mugford, the ferry company has found that animals can suffer separation anxiety if left in boarding kennels when their owners go on holiday.
According to research, animals left in boarding kennels away from the security of the people and places they know are prone to suffering from angst known as “separation anxiety”. This can take the form of howling, barking, loss of bowel control, chewing, or a mixture of all four.
Dr Mugford, Britain's leading animal behaviourist and psychologist, said, “Pets require more than just a balanced diet, a constant supply of fresh, clean water and safe place to play and exercise; they need companionship for at least part of the day.
“Left in unfamiliar environments, pets have been known to reach levels of depression that verge on hysteria so I have teamed up with Stena Line to educate holidaymakers that there is a viable alternative to leaving pets with relations or in kennels and to offer some guidance to ensure that holidaying with pets in Europe can be stress-free and enjoyable for everyone.”
Lars Olsson, Stena Line's general manager of travel for the UK, said, “We are keen to encourage holidaymakers to take their pets with them on holiday as the findings of animal psychology experts have corroborated our suspicions that pets left in boarding kennels can suffer genuine mental health issues.
“We also want to help people to ensure that their pet travels as safely as possible so we have asked Dr Mugford to work with us to devise a set of simple travel safety guidelines.”
In June 2007 Stena Line upgraded its onboard kennels - now the largest on the North Sea - to cater for the needs of the significant proportion of passengers wishing to travel accompanied by their pets on the £10 pet fares to Holland. Owners could also choose to leave their pet in their vehicle throughout the crossing if they prefer. Lead-in fares for adults start at £49 per person one-way for car including driver.
In 2007 Stena Line carried 1,301 dogs and 117 cats between Harwich and the Hook of Holland as part of the pet travel scheme and the refitted kennels ensure that the levels of onboard comfort enjoyed by Stena Line’s four-legged passengers match that of their owners. With pet wellbeing in mind, the kennels are well ventilated, spacious and located in a quiet area of the vessel.
The travel tips devised by Dr Mugford can be found on Stena Line’s website at www.stenaline.co.uk with more information about Dr Mugford on his own site www.companyofanimals.co.uk
All pets travelling between Harwich and the Hook of Holland must have a valid pet passport. More information can be found at www.defra.co.uk
If travelling to Holland, animal lovers can check-in to the Hotel Ibis in central Amsterdam, known for being pet-friendly and offering pet prices from just €5 per night.

STENA LINE EASES PAIN OF RISING FUEL COSTS
Ferry company lifts doom and gloom with start of summer sale
AS today’s worrying economic climate continues to grab the headlines, ferry company Stena Line has set out to lift some of the doom and gloom by announcing details of a summer sale which enables customers to save £60 on a return car crossing to Ireland.
Stena Line is offering customers a welcome chance to save almost 30 per cent on standard brochure fares by travelling on the company’s Superferries from Holyhead to Dublin Port or Fishguard to Rosslare.
The special summer deal offers customers the chance to travel to Ireland from just £80* single for a car and two adults, with children travelling free of charge – provided the booking is made before June 20 for travel by July 4.
Prices for travel from July 5 to August 31 start at just £90* single for a car and two adults, with children, once again, travelling free.
With savings of £30 per single trip, compared to brochure prices, Stena Line Communications Manager Nigel Tilson claims the deal is a welcome boost for travellers in the current climate.
“Nowadays consumers are feeling the pinch as a result of rising fuel costs such as oil, gas and electricity, not to mention the knock-on effect that these have had on general pricing of day to day household goods,” he explained.
“We ourselves have been forced to introduce a small fuel surcharge on our crossings from June 16, having absorbed the increased costs for as long as possible, but to ease the pain for customers, we’ve put together an offer that will still save them a considerable amount of money if they book by June 20.
“Our deals offer unbeatable value for families who can pack their cars without worrying about additional baggage charges and enjoy a relaxing travel experience,” he added.
For further information or to book, click on www.stenaline.co.uk, call Stena Line on 08705 70 70 70 or visit your local travel agent.
* Terms and conditions apply. Fuel surcharge per vehicle of £10 single applies from June 16 2008.

STENA LINE GEARS UP TO FERRY SUMMER BIKERS TO ASSEN
With single motorcyclist fares from just £36, Stena Line expects to entice hoards of bikers over to the 78th Dutch motorcycle Grand Prix
Stena Line, Europe’s leading ferry company, is gearing up for a repeat of its 2007 motorcycle traffic which witnessed a sharp peak on the route between Harwich and the Hook of Holland in June. Around 23 per cent of motorbikes that crossed over to the Hook of Holland in 2007 were in June whilst approximately 64 per cent crossed in the period between May and July.
With Stena Line offering single motorcyclist fares from just £36, coupled with considerable motorbike storage capacity and onboard facilities to safely strap the bikes onboard and minimise risk of damage, ferry travel is the logical way for bike enthusiasts to head to the roads of Holland. An added focal point for bikers are the World Superbike and the Dutch Grand Prix, the 78th Assen TT on Saturday 28 June 2008, competitions.
The Assen TT, part of the MotoGP World Championship, attracts a range of classes, from 125 cc to 250 cc and the MotoGP. The atmosphere also makes the event a draw for non-motorcyclists – Assen has a capacity of 100,000 spectators, including 60,000 seats. Spectators can buy adult tickets from just 40 Euros, whilst children under 13 can get a standing place for free and youths from 13 up to and including 15 are admitted for only 15 Euros.
Travellers wishing to avoid the masses at Assen can enjoy the rest of Holland’s flat roads by motorbike, avoiding parking difficulties and benefiting from the best way to see the sights of this beautiful country. Motorbiking offers the optimal way to enjoy the highlights of Holland, from cruising alongside Amsterdam's canals to marvelling at Rotterdam's spectacular architecture.

STENA LINE RELOCATES TO NEW TERMINAL AT BELFAST PORT
Passengers urged not to miss the boat by going to the old Terminal!
Stena Line has set sail to a new location as the leading ferry company opened a brand new luxury ferry terminal that literally brings Scotland closer to Belfast.
Built by the Port of Belfast, the new £37 million, three-storey terminal has been built on reclaimed land at the seaward end of the Port, enabling Stena Line to relocate its Belfast operations to Victoria Terminal Four (VT4), over two miles closer to the Scottish coast.
The move meant a moonlit flit for Stena Line as the company and its staff switched operations last night in preparation for the HSS Stena Voyager to make the first sailing from the new port at 07:35am this morning. Passengers are reminded to access the new terminal via junction 1/ Fortwilliam Roundabout on the M2, following the signs for Docks (N) Stena Line.
Complete with state-of-the-art facilities including a coffee shop, lounges, a viewing gallery and dedicated facilities for HGV drivers, the new 35,000 ft terminal will provide Stena Line customers with an excellent facility from which to travel to Scotland and a great welcome into Belfast.
“Last year, passenger numbers increased by 1% to 1.2 million, while 275,000 passenger vehicles were also handled, said Stena Line Irish Sea area director Michael McGrath.
“With this in mind, Stena Line want to encourage our customers to keep travelling by ferry by ensuring that they feel that sailing on Stena Line is the premium way to travel.
"The HSS Stena Voyager has just undergone a £2m refit, most of which was focused on the passenger areas and with VT4 now being the first impression of Northern Ireland for people travelling in from Scotland and the last thing they see as they sail out, it is fitting that it is one of the most modern terminals in the UK.”
Joe O’Neill, the Port of Belfast’s Commercial Director added:
“At almost £40m the new facility at VT4 is one of the largest engineering projects which the Port has undertaken and it will play an important role in our plans to double the Port’s capacity by 2025.
“Passenger and freight traffic are important sectors for the Port and the new terminal will help maintain Belfast as the leading gateway to Northern Ireland and the rest of the island.”
Passengers, whether on foot or in cars, will benefit the most from the move, with Stena promising a more streamlined embarkation and disembakation and even more ways to relax onboard while travelling between Belfast and Stranraer.
Stena Line is the market leader on the Irish Sea, offering the biggest fleet and the widest choice of routes from Ireland to Britain, including Belfast to Stranraer, Larne to Fleetwood, Dun Laoghaire and Dublin Port to Holyhead and Rosslare to Fishguard. The company carries over three million passengers on its Irish Sea routes each year, more than its rival operators combined.
