In 1999 the Newhaven – Dieppe service was closed and in 2001 Stena Line was delisted; once again converting to a private company, it focused on passenger travel and freight travel. In 2002, Stena Line sold its 40 per cent share in P&O Stena Line, leading to the Dover – Calais service being re-branded as P&O.
Since this time, Harwich to Hook of Holland has been Stena Line’s only passenger route into continental Europe.
